A Dallas county native

About me

My name is Ben Nizzi, and I am a lifelong resident of Dallas County and I am running for the Dallas County Board of Supervisors, District 4. I grew up here, on what is now Alice’s Road, back when it was still gravel and farm ground. My family owned Alice’s Spaghetti Land, a local Italian restaurant, and that’s where I learned early what it means to show up, work hard, and take care of people. Those values stuck with me.

I am a proud graduate of the Waukee Community School District, Class of 2007. Not long after, I found my path in the trades. In 2012, I proudly joined Ironworkers Local 67 and started in their apprenticeship program. I have built my career the same way a lot of us have, putting in the hours, learning from those who came before me, and earning every step. In 2016, I turned out as a journeyman ironworker and have spent over a decade working on jobsites across Iowa.

I’ve worked for union contractors on everything from structural steel to infrastructure projects that keep this state moving forward. If it’s big, heavy, and built to last, there’s a good chance I’ve either worked on it or worked alongside the crews who did. That work has taken me all over, but Dallas County has always been home.

In 2023, I was elected President of Ironworkers Local 67, representing nearly 500 members. I am immensely proud to serve in this position. I stand up for our members, fight for good jobs and safe worksites, and do my part to make sure the next generation gets the same opportunities I had. I also serve as a trustee on our pension and health and welfare funds, protecting the benefits our members have earned.

My position as president of Ironworkers Local 67 definitely keeps me busy.  I do, however, always make time for my son Vinny, catching Hawkeye sports (particularly wrestling), riding motorcycles and traveling when I can fit it in.

My Mission

Why I am running for Dallas county Supervisor District 4

I am running for Dallas County Board of Supervisor because I’ve seen firsthand how fast this area is growing, and I want to make sure we continue growing it the right way. I bring a working person’s perspective, someone who understands what it takes to build something from the ground up and do it right the first time. I’m ready to work with you to keep Dallas County strong, growing, and a place we are all proud to call home.
